Like a Tree Planted by the Rivers of Water

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall proper." Psalm 1:1-4
If the last few months have taught me anything, it’s that God is my stabilizer. In Him, with His presence and His promises, is life - life with peace that is contrary to this world.
Over the years of my Christian walk I’ve ruminated over this Scripture, especially the line “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water...” I’m sure you've heard of the giant sequoias in California. Some have been standing for 3,200 years, depending on what website you read, and are over 300 feet tall, again depending on what website you read.
The giant sequoia is the most moisture demanding of the species. It requires a year round soil moisture of at least 15-20 percent. Can you imagine 15-20 percent of your daily life enriched with God, delighting in the law of the LORD, mediating on it day and night?
When the world gets to be too much, “Be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.” When worries get to be too much, “Be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.” Well, that’s what God has been saying to me anyway.
Stay Safe and Enriched,
