Preview and Invitation for March 7th

Here's my "Preview and Invitation" for worship this Sunday.  It's the third Sunday in Lent and the weather is predicted to be perfect.  The message will be "What Brings Us Here Today?"  We'll also have a guest musician.  Plan to worship with us at 10:15.  There's plenty of room for social distancing in the sanctuary, but the livestream/video will be available as well.  #joinus

March Notes from the Pastor

pastor notes marOur Lenten season continues through March.  Each Sunday, we will continue to engage in the “Lenten Discipline” of self-examination.  This process enables us to better receive the great joy of Easter morning.  Palm Sunday will be March 28th.  Be sure to join us on this special Sunday as we recognize the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Here’s some THANKS for all those who helped contribute toward the Souper Bowl of Caring this year.  Our local food bank certainly appreciates our collection efforts.

Last year, March Madness was canceled.  This year, the games are on and I will be hosting a church wide bracket contest.  This is for bragging rights only and the winner will be recognized during a worship service in April.  To enter your bracket, visit the site at www.thebigtourney.com/madness/site671876/  (You may have to copy and paste this link in your browser.)  If you would rather drop off a paper bracket at the church office, this is fine too.  I can enter your picks for you.  All members, family and friends are welcome to participate...all are invited!  May the best bracket win!

February Notes from the Pastor

pastor notes febWe had five Sundays in January and I believe we got 2021 off to a great start!  We started the month traveling with the Three Wise Men, and ended the month talking about the authority of Jesus.  A big thanks again goes to Mike, Ann and Brianna for providing the music, and to Rick and Patsy for keeping the live stream going so well!

The Synod of Living Waters held its annual meeting by Zoom on Monday, January 25th.  Our Synod in an important part of our congregation as can be seen by the Living Waters for the World banners hanging in our sanctuary

The Souper Bowl of Caring annual food drive will be held on Super Bowl Sunday, February 7th.  Please bring your canned goods to donate to the Christian Food Bank of Hopkins County on January 31st or February 7th.  There will be a collection box in the narthex.  You can also designate a monetary donation on your church envelope.

Mid-week Bible studies continue.  On Tuesdays at 1:30, a study of the book of Hebrews continues, led by Peggy Phelan.  On Wednesday February 10th and 24th, the Theology of the Three Stooges study will continue at 5:30.  Both mid-week studies are held in Fellowship Hall and CDC guidelines apply.

The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday with a special service at 6:00 p.m.  May we use the Lenten season as a time of spiritual self-evaluation to prepare us for the joy of Easter morning.
