Luke 5:1-11

Luke 5:1-11 is the first passage of Jesus calling forth leaders for His church.

Peter's response to Jesus' call is a good example for us as we hear Christ's call.

  1. Peter casts out his net in obedience to Jesus.
  2. Peter bows before Jesus in humility.
  3. Peter leaves everything to follow Jesus.

Leaders need to profess they are His followers.

Jesus does not need leaders; He needs people willing to listen and obey.

The truth is that we have very few resources of our own, and even fewer people for all the needs of the church.  In humility, good leaders realize they need Jesus more than they need lots of resources.

Jesus requires us to leave everything behind, so that He can give us what we truly need.

All of us are called.  Every call has its cost.  The cost is to give up what may be taking up the space in us that Jesus desires to fill with something better.
