Reflections of 2011

Some of the TV specials that interest me the most are those programs that give an overview or the highlights of the past year.  The biggies of 2011 are probably debatable, as all things are, but most of the time they center around sports, politics, natural phenomena or disasters, and entertainment.  From the Packers to the Mavericks to the Cardinals as world champs, to the Occupy movement, and let's not forget the Wildcats making it to another Final 4.  And of course there is always the entertainment industry with actors and actresses and musicians and the crazy life styles they lead.  All that's happened is now history and will leave a mark for us to reflect on and hopefully learn from.

Joy to the World!

As we anticipate the celebration of Christmas, we are reminded, hopefully, of the joy that surrounds this season.  Joy is so much deeper than happiness to me.  it's there in spite of our circumstances.  It's there as a gift from God, His Spirit providing this fruit in us.  "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another." Galatians 5:22-23, 25-26

So, as you shop for all the people you love, may you have as much joy to give to others as you have been given by God.  Even in the lines of traffic and check-outs may you bear the fruit of His Spirit in you.
