Luke 5:1-11

Luke 5:1-11 is the first passage of Jesus calling forth leaders for His church.

Peter's response to Jesus' call is a good example for us as we hear Christ's call.

  • Peter casts out his net in obedience to Jesus.
  • Peter bows before Jesus in humility.
  • Peter leaves everything to follow Jesus.

Leaders need to know they are followers.

Jesus does not need leaders; He needs people willing to listen and obey.

The truth is that we have very few resources of our own, and even fewer people for all the needs of the church to be met.  In humility, a good leader realizes that he or she needs Jesus.

Jesus requires us to leave everything behind, so that He can give us what we truly need.

All of us are called.  Every call has its cost.  The cost is to give up what may be taking up space in us so that Jesus can fill us with something better.
