Romans 3:21-24

“But now, apart from the Law, the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.  This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe.  There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”  Romans 3:21-24

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked.  So they sewed fig leaves together and made covering for themselves.”  Genesis 3:7

What do you do when you feel spiritually naked?

Our fig leaf designs come with a price.

  • They deny the reality Paul wrote about in Romans 3.
  • They rob us of intimacy with God.

A man rushed into the house in a panic.  “We’re in deep trouble!” he shouted to his wife.  “What’s wrong?” she asked.  “It’s the car!  It won’t work!  There’s water in the carburetor!”  His wife cocked her head to the side.  “You don’t have a mechanical bone in your body.  You know nothing about cars.  How in the world do you know there’s water in the carburetor?”  The husband hung his head and said, “The car is in the swimming pool.  There has to be water in the carburetor.”

This man’s problem was a lot bigger than what he said.  A lot of us are more messed up than we look.  We can dress it up, trying to make our lives look pretty – we work really hard; we show up fairly regularly at church; we’ve got the “My kid’s an Honor Student” bumper sticker; we cope with real life numbers; and we compare ourselves favorably with others.  But,...“all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace…”  Romans 3:23
