Acts 2

Pentecost was a Jewish festival that happened during the Feast of First Fruits.  It happened 50 days after Passover, and celebrated Israel's deliverance from Egypt.  Pentecost was a time to celebrate the initial harvest feast.

Pentecost is now celebrated on the Jewish calendar as Shavuot, a festival marking the Law being given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.

Pentecost has now become a Christian festival that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, or the day on which it is celebrated.
